Top Christmas Ads 2024

The holiday season in Australia is always a magical time, and 2024 was no exception. As usual, Australian brands delivered a slew of heartwarming and humorous Christmas ads. Let's take a look at some of the best and who’s played it safe …

1. ALDI: Go A Little Extra

Having previously worked on a ALDI Christmas campaign (the Sandstorm version in 2022) Once again, ALDI has used music to stand out of the crowd and stolen the show with its quirky and relatable Christmas ad. This year, the supermarket giant encourages us to "go a little extra" during the festive season, with a hilarious twist involving a giant gravy boat. Personally being from the UK I’m a fan of Kevin the Carrot and think they should bring him to their Australian ads!

2. Telstra: Together is for Christmas

Telstra's 2024 Christmas ad is a heartwarming tale of a singing donkey who brings joy to a small town. The ad highlights the importance of family, friendship, and the magic of Christmas. I love the throw back and nostalgia feel to this add and goes beyond the usual template of a Christmas ad making it distinctive and hmerous and love what Telstra are doing with their creative and advertising at the moment.

3. Myer: Share the Joy

Myer's 2024 Christmas ad is a playful and fun celebration of the festive season and sharing unexpected joy of Christmas however you find it. The ad features a pink humbug character causing mayhem in the neighbourhood but eventually finds joy demonstrating no matter how you find joy its always better when shared. I like that they have a different take on a traditional ad and are trying to have some fun and stand out to be distinctive but the Humbug feels random.

4. Woolworths: Make This Christmas a Classic

Woolworths' 2024 Christmas ad is a nostalgic look back at classic Christmas traditions. The ad features a family coming together to create a giant carrot, a heartwarming reminder of the simple pleasures of the festive season. This is a classic Woolworths ad with everyone coming together to eat a Christmas feast but not sure what we are meant to take from it, interesting that the main feature is a carrot … might convince ALDI to bring Kevin back next year!

5. Dan Murphy: Surprise Guests

Dan Murphys shows a customer getting everything she needs ready to host Christmas Day and the employee prompting her to get a extra bottle for the surprise guests. Then flashbacks/ forward to all the surprise guests with a comedic edge. This one made me giggle as think we’ve all been there where a random guest turns up on the day but emphasis Christmas is a time for sharing with people you might not usually see ... maybe helped by alcohol

THE VERDICT ….  It’s between ALDI or Telstra for me but Telstra clinches it with their singing Donkey!!!
