Nothing says Christmas like big advertisers pulling at your heart strings or making you smile with their big expensive TVCs. Over recent years Australia has really followed the trend in the UK for brands to use the holidays as an opportunity to build an emotional connection with consumers and drive all important brand saliency across the retail period.
Being the democratic bunch we are at Kaimera, we took an office poll to identify which Aussie brand has won the race for the best Christmas ad.
Our 2020 winner was Myer – Make It Bigger than Christmas.
We love it because it perfectly encapsulates the sentiment of 2020, but in a positive and celebratory (and uniquely Aussie) way. Sarah Mushan, one of our awesome client co-ordinators said:
“Myers messaging is so relevant to this year. It’s not another boring Christmas ad – it’s relevant to 2020 and all the celebrations we’ve missed.”
Our runner up favourite ad was from Coles, which interestingly was more likely to appeal to Kaimerian’s who were parents. People liked it as it evoked some of the traditional scenes and sentiment of a traditional Aussie Christmas.
Two very different takes on what will be a very unique festive season.
